It was once said that Pilgrim Street was "the longest and fairest street in the town"
It is neither long nor fair these days. The lower part of the street
disappeared during the construction of the Tyne Bridge in the 1920's and a
lot of what's left has been allowed to fall into a state of disrepair.
The good news however, is that there appears to be at least some
restoration work taking place on it's eastern side. Who knows, maybe one
day it might again have a claim to be "the fairest street in the town".
